Damon and Jono Koerner are the brothers behind the Koerner label. Last month, a couple of weeks out from vintage, they graciously showed me around their idyllic Clare Valley vineyards. This was a gorgeous afternoon out – a perfect way to spend a Friday at the end of Summer. It was exciting for me as I was introduced to their wines about a year ago; they’re light but textured and have a freshness about them that I love.
I’m by no means a wine expert (although I did marry a winemaker and enjoy a bottle) so I’m learning the ropes as I go. Koerner wines are well structured and easy-drinking, made with a minimal intervention approach in the winery. I know a lot of people, including myself, can be baffled by some natural winemaking terminology – minimal intervention basically means using as few winemaking additives as possible.
The Koerner wines include Italian varieties of Riesling, Vermentino, Rose, Grenache, Sangiovese and everything in-between.
